Ergonomics
From a design perspective, the James Moran Furniture range has considered with priority the importance of supporting the spine when sitting. His company is aware of, and has embraced the community’s need for healthier furniture. His company has dedicated lengthy periods of time liaising with health care professionals such as chiropractors in an effort to be educated on how to support the spinal column when sitting.
Poor posture exists in plague proportions and is a consequence of using improper furniture over an extended period of time. Rounded shoulders and a ‘hump looking back’ are common examples of this. Spinal degeneration and arthritic changes, particularly in the neck and lower lumbar regions, is a common feature of poor furniture choices.
All James Moran products emphasize mechanical support for the neck, lower back and leg regions. The materials used are positioned and shaped according to the realistic contours of the human frame when sitting. The furniture allows for improved blood flow to the soft tissues of the body pressured when sitting, preventing any aching and cramping.
Breathing new life into old furniture
Re-upholstery:
To bring life back into older furniture, James Moran Furniture offers a re-upholstery and rejuvenation service.
Recycling:
James Moran Furniture uses hand assembly and traditional methods when constructing our furniture. This manufacturing technique uses simple hand assembly and quality fastening techniques, the methods enables us to disassemble the item into material components with ease.
Traditional materials have been used in our furniture, of timber, foam, steel and feather. Smaller components are made from the timber. The foam is sent back to the supplier for recycling into reconstituted foam. The steel is sent for scrap metal, while feather are a naturally biodegradable material.
End of furniture life
At the end of a products life, James Moran Furniture will accept the return of an item for recycling as long as the following conditions are met:
The return of any furniture is agreed to by us in advance and delivered to us at the customers expense.
The furniture is not contaminated in any way this includes paint finishes, coatings and adhesives. Also, the furniture must not be reupholstered by anyone other than James Moran Furniture.
Any furniture that does not meet this criteria, will be returned to the customer at their expense.
We have 2 options with returned furniture, the preferred option is to have the item reupholstered and given to charity. On occasion where the item is not suitable for re-upholstery, we will disassemble the item, with the timber being reused as smaller components and the foam would be recycled into reconstituted foam. The feathers naturally biodegrade, so they would be recycled. The fabric or tan of an item would be given to charity.
General Cleaning
Obviously it is most desirable to keep your furniture in the great condition you found it on the day it was delivered to your door.
Cleaning should be regular to keep it to surface cleaning only. If your suite is not regularly cleaned then surface soiling can become an ingrained problem requiring the more fulsome service of a professional clean.
A weekly wipe gently with a damp cloth usually enough to maximise the appearance of your new furniture. The waxy protective applications will not be harmed, but the surface dirt will be safely removed. A good vacuuming will remove any other dust or dry materials.
Monthly spot cleaning is recommended, with suitable upholstery cleaner, especially in the areas most affected by body contact, followed by a suitable protector application. Do not use any non recommended products on quality furniture, as its ability to damage is usually far greater than its ability to clean. Always consult a professional if in doubt.
In the daily maintenance of your furniture there are several key things to avoid so as maximising your enjoyment of your purchase.
- Pets The things that make them warm and waterproof actually damage your furniture
- Sunlight and Heat Long exposure = cracking, fading and drying
- Personal Products Hair gels/sprays, make-up & creams can be damaging
As with everything else, the normal hurly-burly of life will present its own challenges to your new furniture. Grubby fingers, dye running from clothes, pen marks, and marauding children are just some of the trials your furniture may face, but prompt action can preclude any situation from becoming worse, and the James Moran Furniture team are more than happy to assist in solving the worst of accidents.
At least every year your James Moran Furniture should be cleaned and protected by a professional cleaning company.
If your furniture is damaged beyond your ability to fix domestically, please do not hesitate to
contact James Moran Furniture so as to make repairs.
All upholstery leathers have various “finishes” (protective coatings) applied during manufacture to give resistance to wear and tear associated with normal use.
No matter which type of leather used on upholstered furniture, incorrect leather maintenance will ensure premature finish breakdown causing staining and colour loss, further leading to cracking and total leather breakdown.
James Moran Furniture believes it has created a tried and true series of products capable of keeping your furniture as fresh and stylish in years to come as it is today.
The longer the original finish can be kept intact the better the leather will perform.
Dust, grime, body oil build up and excessive UV exposure are the main contributors to premature finish breakdown:
- Dust acts like an abrasive on the leather finish similar to sand on polished timber grinding away at the finish coat
- Grime build up from clothing, food spills, and skin contact acts to create an abrasive surface and also begin degenerative chemical processes, which degrade the leather finish.
- Body oil build up is usually associated with skin contact on head, arm and seat cushions. If body oils are allowed to build up they can act as emulsifiers on the finish coat chemically breaking it down and allowing the absorbent leather beneath to act as a sponge absorbing more and more oils and affecting the colour adhesion causing rapid colour loss. The reactivity of body oils on leathers varies from person to person and is influenced by many factors including diet, weather conditions and health. Evidence shows that people taking different drugs for varying health requirements often have more reactive body oils and can experience quite quick leather deterioration.
- Ultra-violet exposure can rapidly breakdown finish and pigment coats when allowed to contact leather for prolonged periods. Leathers with heavier pigment coats tend to fade the least whilst leathers with minimal surface colouring like Anilines and Nubucks are more susceptible to fading.
